Overdyed Rugs have a story unlike no other. We take previously used vintage rugs, bleach them, and give them new life with bold, all-natural dyes! Every single Overdyed Rug has a completely unique story- not to mention a one-of-a-kind color! Bold blues, pinks, and greens define our collection of overdyed rugs.
Made With Love: Vintage Overdyed Area Rugs
You might think that overdyed area rugs are just like any other rug. However, they are very different. Overdyed rugs don’t start with a design and strands of wool. They actually start with a vintage rug that has already been handwoven years ago. The woven rug is then hand bleached by taking brooms over the rug to achieve the “distressed” look.
Once the rug has been bleached and dried, it then receives some repair. Our expert hand weavers look for any signs of wear or damage and replace the wool. Next, they hand mix beautiful colors of natural vegetable dyes and prepare the dye pot. This huge pot is an old chrome bowl filled with water and heated by an open fire below the pot. Once the water is boiling, the dye mix is added, and the rug is carefully hand-dyed.
Our weavers never know exactly how the rug will look when overdrying, so it is always an exciting process for them. After the rug has been dyed, it sets out to dry, receives another good washing to ensure the dye doesn’t run, and then it is shipped to your home!
How To Style Overdyed Rugs
Styling overdyed area rugs might sound a little scary due to their bold colors. Need not to worry though! Any room can benefit from an overdyed rug if it is styled right! First, the room…
It’s important to choose a room that has a lot of space if you want a larger (5x7 and up) overdyed area rug. Living rooms, larger bedrooms, dining rooms, wall decor, beneath the coffee table and media rooms are perfect for overdyed area rugs. Since these rugs have so much character, you want to make sure they have the space to express themselves!
Next, you’ll need to decide on the color. Instead of thinking about what color will match best with your room, think about what vibe you want to create in that room. For example, you may want your bedroom to be calming, whereas you want your dining room to be lively. In this case, choose cool colors of blue or green for your bedroom, such as this blue overdyed area rug.
